Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple

The Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple is a Major Temple in Kerala and it is very famous both in India and Abroad. Here the Goddess Adhiparasakthi depicts her powers and blessings in the form of Saraswathy, Lakshmi and Durga in early morning, morning to noon and evening respectively.




The temple of Chottanikkara is a living legend shrowned in magnificent mythology and awe-inspiring truth. Its historical appeal and traditional influence on generations of people is tremendous. Legends say that the presence of Divinity here was worshipped by BHOGACHARYA. The deity which is swayambhoo in latrite called Rudraksha Sila was worshipped by divine souls like Adisankaracharya, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar, Kakkasseri Bhattathiri and Chemmangattu Bhattathiri. It is the cynosure of thousands of devotees swarming from all over the world on all auspicious and festive occations.The golden hued Idol bedecked with flowers, garlands, jewels and bathed in myrid of light shine splendidly.

                                          Special Vazhipaadus 

1 Annadanam Called as "Mahadanam"- blessful for both the person conducting the Annadanam and the devotees participating in it. Very effective to appease not only God, but also the devotees. 2 Mandapathilpaattu In this famous vazhipaadu, there is a combination of other important vazhipaadus like Annadanam, Chuttuvilakku and Niramala, Appam, Ada, Payasam, Chathussadam, offering of paddy, Special Archana etc. The cost for performing this vazhipaadu may vary according to variations in the prices of grocery etc. This vazhipaadu at present costs nearly 22,000 rupees. If Palpayasam has to be arranged an additional expenditure of Rs.4000 has to be incurred. 3 Guruthy Vazhipaadu (At Kizhukkavu Bhagavathy Temple) A restarted important vazhipaadu. It includes Special Poojas by Thanthry and the Melsanthis 4 Rudrabhishekam This is performed for Lord Siva 5 Chuttuvilakku and Niramala It is also performed for better prosperity. 6 Thrikala Pooja Performed for the main deity. It includes pooja at the three times that is in the morning, at noon and in the night. It is also performed for better prosperity.  7 One day Pooja Includes the pooja for the whole day-better for Prosperity. 8 Mahabhagavath Seva Important vazhipaadu for the main deity. Jaggery is important in this vazhipaadu. 9 Noorum Palum This performed for Naga-snakes. 10 Palpayasam This performed to Lord Vishnu-Narayana. 11 Mrithyunjaya Homam To Lord Siva for long life and rescue from illness. 12 Chathussadam It is an important vazhipaadu for the Main Deity 13 Poomoodal and Special Poomoodal (at Kizhukkavu temple) For Kizhukkavu Bhagavathy in the early hours.
